  • Like Absolute Butter”: Trump On How US Struck Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Site

Bombs dropped by American B-2 Stealth Fighter aircraft went through Iran’s heavily-guarded Fordow nuclear facility “like butter”, US President Donald Trump said.

Bombs dropped by American B-2 Stealth Fighter aircraft went through Iran’s heavily-guarded Fordow nuclear facility “like butter”, US President Donald Trump said.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “They were trying to seal up the entrance to where the bomb would most likely go in and they did that. They were working on that and the bomb went through it like it was butter, like it was absolute butter.”

He added that the June 22 strikes on Iran’s three nuclear facilities – Fordow, Natanz and Ifsahan – “obliterated” the country’s nuclear program. Fordow was known as the country’s most secretive and heavily protected site, hidden beneath a mountain and designed to resist airstrikes and foreign interference.

Trump said that the bunker-buster bomb strikes reduced Fordow to “just thousands of tons of rock”. He went on to insist that highly-enriched uranium was not moved from the site before the attack, a claim made by Israeli officials to The New York Times.

“I think first it was very hard to do. It’s very dangerous to do. It’s very heavy, very, very heavy. It’s a very hard thing to do. Plus, we didn’t give much notice because they didn’t know we were coming until just then,” he said.

  • Here’s Why June 30 Is Celebrated As World Asteroid Day

The world celebrates June 30 as World Asteroid Day to commemorate the Tunguska event, a massive asteroid explosion that occurred over Russia’s Siberia on the same day in 1908. This event is considered the largest asteroid impact in Earth’s recent history, flattening around 2,000 square kilometres of forest and releasing energy equivalent to 185 Hiroshima bombs.

The event’s remoteness led to a lack of immediate attention, both within Russia and globally. The first scientific expedition didn’t reach the area until 1927, nearly 19 years after the event. Despite the delay, the expedition found extensive evidence of the asteroid’s impact, including shock wave damage and heat blast effects.

World Asteroid Day aims to educate the public about asteroid risks and impact hazards. It encourages investment in space science and technology. The awareness also helps in developing strategies for asteroid detection, tracking and deflection. This year, the world celebrates the 10th anniversary of Asteroid Day.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/71/90 in December 2016, declaring June 30 International Asteroid Day in order to recognise the global importance of asteroid impact awareness and the need for cooperation to prevent potential threats.

  • Maharashtra Cancels 3-Language Policy Resolution Amid Hindi Imposition Charge

The Maharashtra government has cancelled a resolution on the three language policy for schools, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announcing a panel to discuss the way ahead.

The Maharashtra government has cancelled two resolutions on the three-language policy for schools, at a time political parties have strongly criticised the government’s attempt at “Hindi imposition” in the state. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that a panel will deliberate on the policy’s future.

After a state Cabinet meeting, Mr Fadnavis announced, “We have decided that a committee will be formed under the leadership of educationist Dr Narendra Jadhav to determine from which standard the languages should be implemented, how the implementation should take place, and what choices should be given to students. Based on the report submitted by this committee, the state government will make a final decision on the implementation of the three-language policy. Until then, both the Government Resolutions issued on April 16 and June 17 have been cancelled.”

The June 17 GR stated that Hindi “generally” the third language, and not mandatory, for Classes 1 to 5 in English and Marathi medium schools. It came after the Fadnavis government had issued a GR on April 16, making Hindi a compulsory third language for students in classes 1 to 5 studying in English and Marathi medium schools. The second GR reopened the ‘Hindi imposition’ row, which refers to claims by non-Hindi-speaking states – that Hindi is being forced on non-native speakers to the detriment of their languages.

Both GRs were criticised by the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, and NCP (SP).

Speaking on the eve of the Maharashtra Assembly’s monsoon session, Mr Fadnavis maintained that the government’s focus will remain on Marathi. He also hit out at Uddhav Thackeray for protesting against Hindi but accepting English. He alleged that as chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had accepted the recommendations of the Dr Raghunath Mashelkar committee to introduce a three-language policy from class 1 to 12 and set up a committee on the policy implementation.

  • Chinese Manjha Kills Again, 22-Year-Old Latest Victim Of Killer Kite String

Banned kite strings, widely known as Chinese Manjha, have claimed one more life in Delhi. Twenty-two-year-old businessman Yash Goswami was on his scooter on the Rani Jhansi flyover in north Delhi when a kite string slashed his neck and he fell off the two-wheeler. He was rushed to a hospital, but was declared dead.

The incident occurred on Friday evening when Yash, who ran a shop of e-rickshaw spare parts in Karol Bagh, was returning home. When the two-wheeler was on the flyover, the manjha of a kite slashed Yash’s neck and he fell from the scooter. By the time he was rushed to the hospital, he was dead.Police reached the spot shortly after the incident and started an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to find out who was flying the kite.

Yash’s brother, Amit Goswami, demanded that the Delhi government ensure an effective ban on Chinese manjha. “How can anything that endangers lives be a pastime? People are dying every year, but the government is not doing enough. My brother was like my son, and he is no more,” he said.

Chinese manjha is a menace that has been claiming lives in the national capital and elsewhere for years now. In July 2022, a biker died after a Chinese manjha injured him on Haiderpur flyover. A month later, another biker died of injuries due to a manjha on Shashtri Park flyover, followed by a similar incident on the Nathu Colony flyover. Chinese manjha killed a seven-year-old in July 2023 in Paschim Vihar. A cop was among two people injured in a similar incident on August 15 last year.

Police have been conducting raids against those making and selling Chinese Manjha. Over 1,000 rolls of Chinese manjha have been seized and two people have been arrested in this connection yesterday. But despite police action, Chinese manjha continues to make its way to the market and claim lives.

  • Night To Remember Forever”: Rajeev Shukla, Mohammed Kaif Recall India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Win

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla reminisced on Team India’s ICC T20 World Cup win last year on this day, calling it a “night to remember forever”.

The Board of Control of India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla reminisced on Team India’s ICC T20 World Cup win last year on this day, calling it a “night to remember forever”. On this day last year, Team India ended their 11-year-long trophy drought as a match-winning half-century from Virat Kohli and a brilliant pace choke by Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya helped them beat South Africa by seven runs at Barbados in the T20 WC final to capture their second marquee T20 title.

Remembering that day, Shukla wrote on his X handle, “June 29, 2024, was a night to remember forever. After 11 long years, India finally won an ICC trophy, lifting the T20 World Cup with pride and passion. The wait, the emotions, the glory all came together in that magical moment.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif also took to X, remembering the day when India’s “great tactics” won them the trophy, particularly the strategy to play three spinners, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. After the match, Virat and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from the format.

“Day to remember India’s great tactics that won them the World T20 and our two greats who we miss. Rohit’s plan to play three spinners and Virat’s man of the match in final – great memories,” Kaif posted.

In the pulsating final of the marquee event, India and South Africa landed in Barbados unbeaten, with hopes of ending the quest on a memorable note. The coin spun in India’s favour during the time of the toss, and Rohit decided to put South Africa in a position to chase.

After India was reduced to 34/3, batting maestro Virat Kohli and Axar raised a priceless 72-run partnership before the latter was dismissed on 47(31). Virat continued to extend his stay at the crease and switched through gears after celebrating his half-century.

With his enchanting strokeplay, he blew away the South African bowling unit and returned with 76(59). Shivam Dube’s swift 27 from 16 deliveries propelled India to 176/7.

In reply, Quinton de Kock (39) and Heinrich Klaasen (52) decimated India’s hopes of winning the title. With the equation down to 26 off 24 deliveries, a spirited pace bowling performance came to India’s rescue.

Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh emerged as the prime architects of the Proteas’ downfall. With 16 needed in the final over and David Miller on strike, Pandya began his over with a wide full toss that Miller dispatched down the ground through the aerial route. Suryakumar sprinted to his left from long-off and grabbed the ball. He lobbed it in the air as momentum took him past the boundary rope and then came back inside the field to complete a catch that determined the fate of the title.

The troika chained South African batters and escaped with a narrow seven-run victory to end the ICC Trophy drought.

  • Father Stabs Son, 10, To Death After Fight Over Playing In Rain In Delhi: Cops

The accused, a daily-wage labourer (40), has been arrested and a case of murder has been registered, they said.

A 10-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death by his father on Sunday afternoon following a dispute over playing in the rain in Sagarpur area of southwest Delhi, police said.

The accused, a daily-wage labourer (40), has been arrested and a case of murder has been registered, they said.

A PCR call was received from Dada Dev Hospital around 1:30 pm regarding the admission of a child, who had allegedly been stabbed by his father, police said.

The boy was declared brought dead by doctors, they said.

The boy was living with his father and three siblings in a one-room rented accommodation in Mohan Block in Sagarpur, said police in a statement.

“His mother had passed away a few years ago and the children were being looked after solely by the father,” read the statement.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred when the boy insisted on going out to play in the rain, police said

“His father objected, but the child did not comply. In fit of rage, the man picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the boy in the chest,” the statement said.

The accused rushed his son to the hospital after the attack, but the child had already succumbed to his injuries.

The doctors informed police about the incident following which an investigation was launched.

The weapon of offence, a kitchen knife, has been recovered from the house and the man was taken into custody, police said.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and circumstances leading up to the crime, they said.

The cops are also speaking to the neighbours and family members to understand the background.

The victim’s sister demanded strict action against her father.

She said that her father used to thrash everyone after consuming liquor.

“Today my brother went outside to play in the rain, but my father objected and ran behind him with a knife. He stabbed him in the chest. I want strict action against my father,” she said.

The victim’s brother said that he even tried to save him from their father.

“My father was drunk and he was not listening to our pleas. He suddenly stabbed my brother due to which he died. We want action against him,” he added.

Police said that they are also checking the CCTV footage of the entire incident and will record the statement of others

  • AI Is Learning To Lie, Scheme And Threaten Its Creators

The world’s most advanced AI models are exhibiting troubling new behaviors – lying, scheming, and even threatening their creators to achieve their goals.

The world’s most advanced AI models are exhibiting troubling new behaviors – lying, scheming, and even threatening their creators to achieve their goals.

In one particularly jarring example, under threat of being unplugged, Anthropic’s latest creation Claude 4 lashed back by blackmailing an engineer and threatened to reveal an extramarital affair.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT-creator OpenAI’s o1 tried to download itself onto external servers and denied it when caught red-handed.

These episodes highlight a sobering reality: more than two years after ChatGPT shook the world, AI researchers still don’t fully understand how their own creations work.

Yet the race to deploy increasingly powerful models continues at breakneck speed.

This deceptive behavior appears linked to the emergence of “reasoning” models -AI systems that work through problems step-by-step rather than generating instant responses.According to Simon Goldstein, a professor at the University of Hong Kong, these newer models are particularly prone to such troubling outbursts.

“O1 was the first large model where we saw this kind of behavior,” explained Marius Hobbhahn, head of Apollo Research, which specializes in testing major AI systems.

These models sometimes simulate “alignment” — appearing to follow instructions while secretly pursuing different objectives.

    – ‘Strategic kind of deception’ –

For now, this deceptive behavior only emerges when researchers deliberately stress-test the models with extreme scenarios.

But as Michael Chen from evaluation organization METR warned, “It’s an open question whether future, more capable models will have a tendency towards honesty or deception.”

The concerning behavior goes far beyond typical AI “hallucinations” or simple mistakes. Hobbhahn insisted that despite constant pressure-testing by users, “what we’re observing is a real phenomenon. We’re not making anything up.”

Users report that models are “lying to them and making up evidence,” according to Apollo Research’s co-founder.

“This is not just hallucinations. There’s a very strategic kind of deception.”

The challenge is compounded by limited research resources.

While companies like Anthropic and OpenAI do engage external firms like Apollo to study their systems, researchers say more transparency is needed.

As Chen noted, greater access “for AI safety research would enable better understanding and mitigation of deception.”
